Tis the Season for Ticks

Tick Season is Upon Us

Ticks, otherwise known as blood-sucking bugs, have resurfaced in the New England region for the spring and summer months. It is paramount to protect your friends and family, as these minuscule creatures love to prey on unsuspecting hosts. In particular, ticks like to feed on humans and our furry four legged friends. If you go out for a walk around the beautiful New England foliage, you might encounter a few of these bugs. The possibility of you and your puppy encountering at least one each is very possible. They have a habit of hanging out in grass, shrubs, trees, and leaf piles, which means ticks can “attack” from all angles.

Tick bites can be entirely harmless, or they can also lead to potentially life-threatening illnesses. These tiny bugs have been known to carry diseases like Lymes Disease, Malaria, and the West Nile Virus. Symptoms can include but are not limited to: swelling, rash, fever, nausea, weakness, headache, chills, neck stiffness, and more. According to Enterprise News, “As the geographic ranges of multiple tick species continue to expand, invasive tick species are being discovered, new tick borne pathogens are emerging, and confections in ticks are surging,” the report said. “Rising global temperatures, ecologic changes, reforestation, and increases in commerce and travel are all important underlying factors influencing the rate and extent of range expansion for ticks and tickborne pathogens.” Ticks aren’t going anyway and really seem to only die down when the temperatures are below freezing.

Don’t take any chances with the growing tick population – any number of them can be carriers of harmful diseases. Treatment for ticks is provided by specialized technicians here at Eco Systems Pest Control. We give free estimates and consults in order to determine the pest situation and the plan of action.
